Greta Tunberg invited to an expert meeting on coronavirus

The CNN news agency will hold another round of expert advice on the situation with the coronavirus and COVID-19. Among those invited are former head of the US Centers for Disease Control Richard Besser, former US Secretary of Health Kathleen Sibelius, and Greta Tunberg. The event will be hosted by CNN lead medical correspondent Sanjay Gupta.

CNN was criticized by the scientific and online communities, but opinions were divided: part of the audience supported the decision. Questions are raised by the role of Greta Tunberg on CNN’s expert council. One of the suggestions made – the participation of a young eco-activist can be seen as a way to draw attention to the event and the issues raised. At the same time, the pandemic problem is obvious to everyone and is unlikely to require additional informational injections, said Tom Nichols, political adviser and international relations expert.

The president and founder of Eurasia Group, Iain Bremmer, was brief: “I am confused.” Roksana Gay, author of the best-selling compilation of Bad Feminist, is convinced that Tunberg needs to be involved. In her opinion, it is wrong when men with the lack of the necessary qualifications can get on the air, and for Greta Tunberg the road is closed.

Even Donald Trump spoke about the participation of Tunberg.

Greta Thunberg having a remarkable career already in that as a teenager she’s now a world renowned infectious disease specialist and epidemiologist AND a leading scientific voice when it comes to global climate policy.
